Whilst Wind & Wingfoiling normally only require 1-2 lessons to become independently competent, learning to Kitesurf takes a little longer.
With Windsurfing, you will learn all basic skills and most people are able to sail on a course, know how to turn around and come back to shore. In a typical two-hour lesson, you will spend about 30min on shore learning about rigging, safety and weather conditions and the rest of your lesson will be on water.
With Wingfoiling, first lesson you will learn all the wing handling skills and how to wing on a paddleboard. You should accumulate skills to sail a course, turn around and sail back to shore. In the second lesson, you will learn how to ride a foil board. In a typical first two-hour lesson, you will spend about 30-40min on shore learning about rigging, safety, weather conditions, wing handling and how to get up on the board, and the rest of your lesson will be on water. In your second lesson, you should only spend about 10-15minutes on land, quick re-cap on wing handling skills and how to get on a board, then the rest of your lesson will be on water, this time with a foil board.
Learning to Kitesurf is like learning to drive. Depending on your learning ability, most people require on average 3 x two-hour lessons before they become independently competent to go out on their own. You will be issued with an evaluation card at each lesson so you can see your own progression. We have taught wakeboarders in 3 hours and they are up on the board riding, but we also have students who still prefer to head out with an instructor after 4-5 lessons.
All sports on water carries a degree of danger, in particular kitesurfing. So you need to understand the importance of reaching a competent level before considering heading out on your own.
